Is The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim worth watching?

Mostly for Middle-earth completists — 56% Celluloid Score. Kenji Kamiyama’s 134-minute anime is a Rohan legend set 183 years before Fellowship: Helm Hammerhand, a siege, and Héra as the film’s actual protagonist. You do not need the live-action cast. You also do not get their gravity.

Place it as optional in the Middle-earth watch order. It is not a missing chapter of Jackson’s trilogy. It is a side-quest with a famous surname.

What does the anime add?

A Helm’s Deep that is not Jackson’s. The Hornburg as a last stand for a different generation is a legitimate legend-gap fill. Gaia Wise’s Héra is a clearer centre than a male-only appendix war would have been. The horse culture still photographs — or rather, animates — as something you might fight for.

What the 56% composite is saying: editorial 48 and Metascore 54 against a warmer audience snapshot. The film looks like Lord of the Rings merchandising that wandered into a competent anime war picture. If you wanted Gollum, the Ring, or McKellen, you will feel the absence as a void, not as a bold choice.

Who should skip War of the Rohirrim?

Skip it if you have not watched the Jackson trilogy and thought this was “the new Rings movie.” Skip it if anime motion is a hard no. Skip it if 56% already answers you. Watch it if Rohan lore is your hobby and you can live without the Fellowship.
