Celluloid Verdict
Less punishing and more propulsive than its predecessor, The Testaments finds a fresh angle on Gilead through younger eyes — anchored by Ann Dowd's return and a breakout Chase Infiniti, it earns a place beside The Handmaid's Tale rather than in its shadow.

What is The Testaments about?
Gilead endures, four years after the War of Massachusetts, and a new generation has never known anything else. Sixteen-year-old Agnes, cherished daughter of a powerful commander, is groomed at Aunt Lydia's school to become a wife; Daisy, a caustic teenager raised beyond the border, crashes into that world carrying secrets that could shake the regime. Margaret Atwood's sequel becomes a coming-of-age story set inside the machinery of a theocracy — with Aunt Lydia playing her longest game yet.
