A rare romantic comedy that takes rent, career precarity and thirty-something disillusionment as seriously as it takes love — quiet, wry and unexpectedly moving.

What is Because This Is My First Life about?
A software developer who owns a house and wants nothing to do with romance takes in a tenant: an assistant screenwriter with no savings and nowhere left to sleep. To keep the arrangement respectable and their finances stable, they sign a marriage contract with clearly defined terms and an expiry date. A year of shared rent, prying relatives and awkward negotiation follows, and the contract turns out to handle feelings very badly.

Because This Is My First Life Review: Love on a Lease
★★★★☆
Because This Is My First Life is a Korean contract-marriage rom-com that treats rent, careers and thirty-something doubt as seriously as love. It is wry and moving.
Yes, with reservations. It suits viewers who want a grown-up, low-key romance about money, marriage and work, though its slow pace and deadpan hero need patience.
