Is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 worth watching?

Yes, as the first half of one war movie — 73% Celluloid Score. Yates’s 146-minute Part 1 is the camping-and-paranoia chapter: no Hogwarts timetable, no Quidditch, and a trio that can barely stand each other while the wizarding world collapses off-screen.

Do not treat it as optional setup. The watch order puts it seventh for a reason. Jumping to Part 2 is how the Battle of Hogwarts feels unearned.

Why does the bleak stretch exist?

Because the books’ last volume is two films’ worth of plot, and the first half is about not knowing what to do. The Horcrux is a mood as much as an object. Bill Nighy’s Ministry and the wedding-into-raid opening are the series’ sharpest “the state has fallen” images. The animated Tale of the Three Brothers is a palate cleanser that still serves lore.

The forest bickering will test anyone who wanted set pieces every twenty minutes. That boredom is diegetic: the characters are stuck too. When the locket comes off, the film remembers it can move.

Who should skip Deathly Hallows Part 1?

Skip it if you need a closed ending the same night — that is Part 2. Skip it if you only liked the school-year comedies. Do not skip it if you care about Ron’s leaving and returning; Part 2 will not re-explain that wound.
