What is Project Hail Mary about?

A disoriented middle-school science teacher wakes aboard a deep-space vessel with no memory of how he got there — only a mission briefing that humanity's sun is dying and he may be the last hope to save it. As Ryland Grace pieces together his past and his purpose, an unlikely friendship with an alien engineer named Rocky becomes the emotional spine of a survival story that balances hard science, wit, and genuine wonder.
