What is HOPE about?

In Hope Harbor, a fishing village hard against the DMZ, wildfires sever all communications just as something inhuman comes down out of the mountains. A weary police chief, a rookie officer and a village of armed locals set out to hunt the creature — and quickly become the hunted. Na Hong-jin's first film since The Wailing is a $46 million science-fiction colossus, a decade in the making, that premiered in competition at Cannes and delivered Korea's biggest box-office opening of 2026, with Hwang Jung-min leading an international ensemble that folds in Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander.

Hope Review: Na Hong-jin Returns With a Monster Epic That Devours Itself

A decade after The Wailing, Na Hong-jin resurfaces with Hope — a 160-minute creature epic whose opening stretch is some of the most ferocious action filmmaking of his career, and whose back half spends that brilliance with both hands.

See it for the first hour, which is world-class, and brace for the sprawl. Genre devotees and Na completists should not miss it; viewers hoping for another Wailing should recalibrate.
