What is HOPE about?
In Hope Harbor, a fishing village hard against the DMZ, wildfires sever all communications just as something inhuman comes down out of the mountains. A weary police chief, a rookie officer and a village of armed locals set out to hunt the creature — and quickly become the hunted. Na Hong-jin's first film since The Wailing is a $46 million science-fiction colossus, a decade in the making, that premiered in competition at Cannes and delivered Korea's biggest box-office opening of 2026, with Hwang Jung-min leading an international ensemble that folds in Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander.

Hope is Na Hong-jin's first film since The Wailing, a creature epic set near the DMZ whose ferocious first hour outclasses its bloated, over-explained second half.
It depends. Genre fans and Na Hong-jin devotees should see it for a first hour of world-class action, but expect a long, overstuffed back half and a divisive ending.
